Youth Employment Workshops
Sea to Sky Community Services’s Squamish Youth Services and WorkBC present the Youth Employment Workshops! Join us for three workshops focusing on resume building skills, refining your job search, effective interview skills, and preparation for employment skills. A WorkBC professional will be facilitating all of the workshops, allowing all of the youth to feel confident in their newfound skills!
What: Three workshops consisting of resume building skills, refining your job search, effective interview skills, and preparation for employment skills.
Who: All youth between 16-24 years of age.
When: Tuesday from 4:00-5:30pm for 3 weeks – April 12 19, 26
Where: Sea to Sky Community Services office – group room – 38024 Fourth Ave, Squamish, BC. We ask that all youth find transportation to and from.
Cost: FREE
Food: Dinner will be provided at ALL three workshops.
Registration: See instructions below. Youth can choose which workshops they want to attend. It is not mandatory to attend all. Come to one or all three, up to you!
All participants will leave with awesome prizes!

Weekly Workshop Overview
Week 1: Resume Quick Tips
Through participation in this workshop, Youth participants will be offered a light-touch introductory support in a group environment for creating or updating resumes, cover letters and/or references. Key topics in this workshop will include:
- Basics of resume writing (focus on chronological)
- Targeting resumes to specific job postings
- Writing accomplishment/achievement statements
- Targeted cover letter writing
- Appropriate use of references
Week 2: Surefire Job Search and Effective Interviews
Surefire Job Search
In this workshop participants will learn strategies to access the hidden job market such as networking, cold-calling and informational interviews. Youth will fill in information to produce a customized job search plan that provides useful scripts for phone calls and emails with potential employers. Upon completion, participants will have more tools at their disposal to reach the employers they are most interested in. Key topics in this workshop will include:
- Networking
- Accessing the Hidden Job Market-New
- Job Search
Effective Interviews Overview
Participants in this workshop will learn how to effectively prepare for interviews in order to increase confidence and become more comfortable in interview settings. Youth will learn about the types of interviews that employers conduct, common types of interview questions, appropriate attire, effective body language, and how to follow up after an interview. Techniques to overcome interview anxiety will also be introduced. Participants will leave the workshop with a clear understanding of how to prepare for upcoming job interviews. Key topics in this workshop will include:

Week 3: Prepare for Employment
This workshop is designed to assist youth who have obtained employment for the first time. Through participation in this workshop, Youth will learn how to positively integrate into a Workplace Environment. This workshop covers Effective Communication, Advocacy and Etiquette in the Workplace. It will also cover Problem Resolution, Organizational Skills and Positive Approaches. Key topics in this workshop will include:
- Effective Workplace Behavior
- Effective Communication and Problem Solving in the Workplace
- Time Management/Organizational Skills

- Youth may register for how ever many workshops they want. You do not need to register for all three but it is encouraged!
