Common Worlding Early Childhood(s): Sea-to-Sky Possibilities for Livable World

February 21 @ 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

$15

Registration is closed.

Description

This workshop invites ECEs to join a lively conversation about taking a common worlding approach in early years practice, named in the BC Early Learning Framework. In it, educators will be invited to think with the facilitators about what it means to put a common worlding approach to work in ways that are grounded in an ethical commitment to create conditions for more livable worlds for all, human and non-human.

What does ‘living common worlding practice’ look and feel like within the life of a centre? How do we engage common worlding in everyday practice without romanticizing young children’s multispecies relations with the myriad of plants, animals, weather, and other beings and forces they share place with on Indigenous lands? What is required of us to take up a common worlding approach without flattening differences that make each child, community, and context unique?

Facilitators

Led by University of Victoria Child Care Services pedagogist, Narda Nelson, and Arbutus Place supervisor Sherri-Lynn Yazbeck, they will share experiences working with this approach for 10+ years at the University of Victoria Child Care Services, including some of the challenges and opportunities emerging through experimental practice.
