Kristin Trotter (she/her) is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Sexual Health Educator. She has a Masters in Clinical Counselling and was trained by Options for Sexual Health in BC.
In private practice, Kristin specializes in therapeutic conversations with preteens, teens and young adults. In particular she is knowledgeable in supporting the emotional needs of gay, lesbian, bisexual, asexual, transgender, non-binary, queer, questioning and Two-Spirit individuals. Kristin also offers consultation and counselling support for parents and caregivers of 2SLGBTQ+ young people.
In addition to her clinical work, since 2016, Kristin has taken an active role in promoting understanding, respect, safety and compassion for 2SLGBTQ2S+ folks. Kristin co-facilitates Queer Conversations, a monthly online gathering for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, families and allies.
This workshop covers basic knowledge for providers and educators working with 2SLGBTQ+ children, youth, caregivers and family members. By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to better define terms related to the 2SLGBTQ+ acronym, will learn how to accurately explain key terms and concepts, including the distinction between sex, sexual orientation, gender and gender expression.
Participants will explore the use of pronouns and understand their importance, and learn additional language that is inclusive of sexual and gender diversity. Time will be made for specific questions and scenarios related to your workplace. Our values-based practice, the images we hold, as well as the vulnerabilities and skills at the heart of leading this work forward.
