Everyone should have a home, and the rising cost of living across BC creates an urgent need in our communities to support people who are at risk of homelessness. Recognizing this, SSCS operates a homeless outreach program that helps people access support and funding to find homes.
Chaelyn Falconer works at SSCS as a Homeless Prevention and Outreach worker. She grew up in the Sea to Sky Corridor and has witnessed the rapid population growth in Squamish and other local communities. In her own words:
“I have seen friends, families, colleagues, and clients struggle with the immense cost of living. High rental fees, grocery prices, mortgages, and other financial responsibilities can all pile up and feel overwhelming.”
“My job as a Homeless Prevention and Outreach Worker is not only to help ensure our community members are housed but also to do what I can to lessen the stress and burdens for those struggling. Sometimes that just means giving people the information they may not be aware of, helping them with filling out the (seemingly) endless amounts of paperwork that comes with applying for anything government-related, and sometimes, just listening to their concerns and frustrations.
I do what I do because I love to help.”
Proving yet again that doing what she can to help comes naturally to Chaelyn, she has organized a series of three (3) drop-in sessions for clients to get help with the new Canada Housing Grant – a one-time top up of $500 offered to eligible families and individuals.
Sessions will be available in person in Squamish at Sea to Sky Community Services (see Events)
