Portage Paddle Program Kick Off
August 5 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pmFree
A traditional paddle making workshop that is FREE for youth aged 14 to 18 led by Art Harry and supported by Lenny Rubenovitch and Sea to Sky Community Services Youth Services.
The workshop will share stories around trees and cedar and their significance to the Squamish Nation land. A woodworking workshop that is not just a paddle-making workshop, it also looks at nature through outings and shared discussions. If we look into the roots of the words “art” and “craft” their roots share a connection to strength. The workshops will share metaphors and support participants to not only be a way for participants to express themselves but to share dialogue around trees and build strength in character. Participants will transform a blank piece of wood into a paddle with the use of power tools and hand tools.
This program will adhere to all agency and provincial Covid-19 guidelines and safety of the youth in of the utmost importance.
